Our full-time classified employees at Spoon River College enjoy a 35 hour work week; Fridays off beginning the week after graduation in May and lasting through July; 15 sick days (prorated to start date), and starting with 10 accruing vacation days per year.
The paid holiday schedule is as follows: Martin Luther King's Birthday, President's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, and Christmas Break- (minimum of ten working days including Christmas Day and New Year's Day).
SRC staff, their spouse and qualified dependent children are eligible to use the tuition waiver on credit hour courses.

Job Title: Specialist, Financial Aid Veterans Status / FLSA Status: FT / Nonexempt Classification: Classified (Student Services) Department: Financial Aid Reports To: Assistant Dean, Student Services Location: Macomb Campus Date Reviewed: February 2020 Date Updated: February 2020 PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Financial Aid/Veterans Specialist assists in the administering of federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.
Serves as a resource person for students by answering questions about programs or directing questions to appropriate person and/or department.
2.
Enters and maintains student information in the College’s administrative system.
3.
Completes needs analysis and standards of progress.
4.
Assists in the calculation Federal and State aid programs.
5.
Completes billings for State aid programs and State and Federal Veterans Programs.
6.
Certifies federal veterans and preparation of approval information to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
7.
Maintains student veteran files and records.
8.
Works with the Scholarships Committee to process institutional aid.
9.
Assists with the annual Federal and State reports for submission.
10.
Prepares state budgets for State aid programs for submission to ISAC.
11.
Provides financial aid assistance throughout the four campuses of Spoon River College.
12.
Serves on the Graduation Committee.
13.
Assistance with and attendance at commencement is required annually or at minimum on a pre-approved scheduled basis.
14.
Assists students and parents with Title IV aid applications.
15.
Enters institutional scholarships in the College's administrative system.
16.
Assists with Default Prevention initiatives.
17.
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
An associate degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution is preferred.
2.
Two years of financial aid or related experience demonstrating a wide range of skills and abilities is required.
Experience in a community college setting is preferred.
3.
Knowledge of on-line computer records system and ability to enter data is required.
4.
Record keeping and bookkeeping experience is preferred.
5.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, instructions, and manuals.
Ability to write routine correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups.
6.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
Ability to count units of money.
7.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
8.
Experience using Microsoft applications with a high degree of accuracy and personal computer skills is required.
9.
Superior organizational, interpersonal, client service, and communication skills, is required.
10.
Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities; deal with conflict appropriately; withstand pressure and remain calm in tense situations, accurate; flexible; dependable; responsible; promotes teamwork; demonstrates a positive attitude is preferred.
11.
Must possess a high level of confidentiality.
12.
Must possess the ability to assist, influence and work with a diverse dynamic student population.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Physical demands for this position include the ability to regularly sit, use hands and fingers, talk and hear.
This position requires limited standing, walking, reaching, stooping / kneeling.
Vision requirements for this position include close vision including the ability to view text from a computer monitor.
